the tag said this is a Nomad Spring but I can't find and information about it or that it even exists. can anyone help me???

Ueca: I lost some sleep over this one. My conclusion is that it's a Gasteraloe, which is a hybrid between Gasteria and Aloe.
Perhaps it's an un-patented breed named "Nomad Spring".

I'm not quite sure how this happened, but will it survive? Is there anything I can do to help it? I'm worried the stem is going to break it half.

meriunkat: you may also remove some of the bottom leaves and use to try to propagate as well
meriunkat: it's rotting, too much water
best thing to do is cut the rotted part a way and let it dry till the bottom part seals before potting it
when you do pot it do not water it right away to avoid more rotting
